Summer is already around the corner and we can feel the heat right out of the doors. Though summer time is to relax and chill in the pool, enjoy the beach, go vacation, pursue a hobby and do so much more ! But keeping in mind that it all keeps us outdoor and longer in the sun.


In the warmer, longer, lazier days of summer, you step out of the house and you can literally feel the heat burning your skin. Over heating can cause extra sweating which causes loss of body fluids. Besides dehydrating the body, the extreme temperature can be very harsh on the skin and can cause skin rashes, tanning, pigmentation, early ageing etc.

The result is dull, tired and dry skin with zero appeal. So summer is the season when you have to take special care of your skin. 

In order to overcome the seasonal damage and dullness of the skin, it is important to comply with certain skin care regimen.

1) Exfoliate the skin

 
Exfoliation is must, and should be done more often in the summers. More than the rest of the year, during summers there is an acceleration of dead skin cell accumulation. If you don’t get rid of them, your skin will look dull and dry. No matter how much lotion or anything else you use, you won’t have glowing skin if you do not exfoliate. Choose a light scrub for your face and body. 

 

2) Protect it from the sun
It is important to use a sunscreen lotion of at least SPF 30 in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. For sensitive skin, a mineral-based sunscreen is best. Don’t sit in the sun in peak hours between 10am and 4pm in order to minimize UV radiation. If you are planning to be out in the sun for a long period of time, reapply sunscreen every two to three hours. Don’t neglect your body by just applying it to your face. Pay attention to every body part which gets exposed to the harsh sun.
 

3) Stay well hydrated

 
All the heat and sweating can leave your body dehydrated and your skin dry. So drinking water and liquids at regular intervals becomes a must for soft, moisturized skin. It’s best to stick to water, fresh fruit juices, buttermilk, lime water or coconut water. Stay away from aerated drinks, they only do further damage to your skin. 
 

4) Cool your body

 
Summer is the time for heat rashes, heat boils and many other skin conditions. A lot of the time, this has to do with body heat. Stock up on natural coolants for the body like tender coconut water, buttermilk, lemon water or even barley water to help bring down the heat within your body. 

 

5)Protect your hair 
Our hair suffers a lot during the summer. Constant heat, sun damage and chlorine takes a toll on our hair and can leave it feeling dull and dry. If you’re planning on swimming a lot during the summer, it is advisable to use anti-chlorine shampoo and conditioner to help neutralize the chlorine from your hair. If possible, minimize the use of hair dryers, straighteners and other heat styling products. Towel dry your hair, and apply a good nourishing serum. Always use a heat protection spray before using any hair styling machines.
